WhatsApp bulk campaigns

A bulk campaign is the fastest route to getting blocked if it is misused, and the strongest channel if it is not. The difference is not the tool — it is who you send to, on what template, and how often.

A segment, not a list

The segment is built from data you actually have: who bought, who abandoned a cart, who has not ordered in a while, who carries a given tag. Sending to everyone is what destroys the channel.

Opt-outs are honoured

Anyone who asked to stop is excluded from every later campaign automatically. That is not a marketing feature — it is the condition for your number surviving.

After the send

The report shows what was sent, delivered, read and replied to, and replies open in the inbox. A campaign whose replies nobody follows loses customers rather than winning them.

Why numbers get banned: the real reason

Numbers are not banned for sending a lot; they are banned because recipients reported or blocked. Meta measures the recipient's reaction, not your volume.

So a thousand messages to an interested segment is safer than a hundred to a bought list. The measurement that matters is your number's quality rating — Barqia shows it in the dashboard, and the fix comes before you reach a sending restriction rather than after. Make checking it a habit after every campaign; there is no automatic alert when it falls.

When it drops, don't look at the number, look at the message: which template preceded the drop, and who received it? The answer is usually in the list, not the text.

The holdout: how you know the campaign worked

If you send to a thousand customers and fifty buy, how many bought because of the message? The purchase count alone does not answer that.

What Barqia offers is an A/B test with a deferred holdout: two versions go to two small equivalent slices while the rest of the audience is held back. Once the two versions have a result, the winner goes to the held-back majority — nobody is denied the message, they simply receive it after you know which wording to send.

That answers "which message is better?" precisely. "Did the campaign work at all?" needs a group that never receives it, and that is not built here today. Until it is, the nearest practical estimate: compare the week you sent against a comparable week you did not, and be aware that seasonality corrupts the comparison.

Before you press send

Most broadcast mistakes are not in the decision but in the execution: an unmapped variable so "Hello {{name}}" arrives literally, an image whose URL expired, or a template Meta never approved.

All of these are caught by one message to your own number before the thousands. Open "preview and send a test" inside the campaign dialog: the preview shows the text with variables filled, and the test is a real WhatsApp message down the same path — the only way to confirm the template really is approved and the image really arrives.

What to send, and when

A practical rule: if the message is not something a recipient would thank you for, don't send it to a thousand people.

  • Tell the people it concerns: whoever bought the first product, when the second one lands.
  • Don't send "happy holidays" with nothing behind it — a message with no use teaches the customer to ignore you.
  • Respect quiet hours. A campaign outside them is deferred automatically, not cancelled.
  • Exclude anyone you messaged recently — the same audience can be in two campaigns.
  • Make replying possible: a campaign sent from a number nobody answers wastes the best thing about the channel.

A/B testing: two versions, not a guess

Which wording is better? That is not a question opinion answers. Send two versions to two equivalent slices of the same audience, and compare.

The right way is to send both to a small part first and then send the winner to the rest — not to split the list in half and discover too late that half your customers got the weaker version.

Change one thing per test: the headline, the incentive, or the timing. Changing three at once gives you a winner you cannot explain, which teaches you nothing for the next campaign.

How to start

  1. 1Activate your WhatsApp Business number through Meta's embedded signup.
  2. 2Get the campaign template approved by Meta before you build it — not after.
  3. 3Build a segment, not a list: who bought, who engaged, who has not been contacted in a while.
  4. 4Open the preview and send a test to your own number.
  5. 5Run an A/B test if you have two versions — the winner goes to the rest of the audience automatically.
  6. 6Send, then watch the number's quality rating, not just how many opened.

Common questions

Can I send a promo to any number?
No. Meta's rules require approved templates and recipients who have a relationship with you and agreed to be contacted. Breaking that puts your number at risk.
How is this different from SMS?
WhatsApp allows images, buttons and a reply, inside an app your customer already uses daily. More importantly, the conversation continues after the message.
Is there a sending limit?
Yes — Meta sets tiers that widen as your number's quality and history improve. The limits are Meta's; the platform respects them.
Can I schedule a campaign?
Yes, at a set time — and recurring campaigns can be configured as well.
What is the difference between a segment and a list?
A list is everyone you have. A segment is whoever fits a description today: bought last month, left a cart, has not bought in sixty days, rated you poorly. The first is sent once and burns the channel; the second is sent every week and still gets read.
Does a campaign reach someone who opted out of marketing?
No. A marketing opt-out excludes the number from every campaign automatically, with nobody needing to remember. It does not block utility messages — order confirmation and shipping updates still arrive, because that is not what they asked to stop.
How often can I send per month?
There is no number that fits everyone, and the better question is: how often do you have something worth sending? Start with once or twice a month to different segments — not the same list twice — and watch the quality rating. If it drops, cut back before you hit a restriction.
Can I exclude people I messaged yesterday?
Yes, and it happens automatically through the per-number frequency cap — the protection does not depend on you remembering. But excluding the audience explicitly when you build the segment is better, because what the cap holds is deferred rather than cancelled, and may arrive at a moment you did not intend.
